Health facilities are almost nonexistent. Hospitals and doctors are lacking, child and maternal mortality is very high and there is a general lack of hygiene education.
We would therefore encourage those young people with special intellectual gifts, to study medicine and attend school, most of which are private, where biology is taught.
To do this we would like to raise awareness among our donors and acquaintances who are doctors, so that they might take the responsibility of maintaining one of our medical students.

After decades of isolation Myanmar is becoming ever more open. The enduring and severe separation in the field of politics, economy and culture, imposed by the military dictatorship resulted in precious little being known of Myanmar in recent decades. The Nobel Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi is the leader of the opposition. Her primary goal is the non-violent re-introduction of human rights and democracy. There are certainly some visible sparks of democracy which have still to grow into a fire. Decades of stagnation and political isolation forecast widespread poverty. However, the political system failed to deter the profound spirituality of the people. Buddhism, in particular, continues to influence the citizens of Myanmar. The many stupas, pagoda, temples and images of the Buddha continue to enjoy the worship of the population.
The Maria Schregel e.V. a charitable society, registered in Germany, supports development projects in Myanmar, (the former Burma), to help people to help themselves. Every donation, to the last penny, is used to help the needs of the people there. We support only those projects we know, from hands-on experience, and whose activities we are able to monitor. The project leaders, in situ, are responsible people whom we know individually and who are both qualified and trustworthy. We help all those in need, regardless of their religion, ethnicity or gender.
Our aim
Our aim is to create livelihoods for people in need and to enable those people to help themselves. Our activities are focused on the village of Kanazogo in Myanmar. We support only those projects which have the consent and the approval of the village council, the village chief and the council of elders of the respective ethnic groups. Our concern is to promote the peaceful co-existence of different groups, to encourage women and to help the poorest of the poor.
