Electricity generated by a waste product is a wonderful idea. Rice husks which in the past were washed away by the river are now gathered and used to generate gas. The methane is conducted from an incinerator to the tank of a lorry engine which in turn fuels a dynamo. The 100 Kw  generated is sufficient to supply electricity to each of the 800 houses.  Since 2013 a whole village has been energized with this method.

This innovation has made a notable difference to people’s lives. Employment opportunities increase and consequently incomes also.  The school, the children’s home, the nursing home for the elderly and the doctor’s surgery all benefit from the electricity.  It means higher levels of safety for all the inhabitants especially in emergency situations.

The entire project is managed by the villagers themselves under the supervision of a local electrical engineer. The son of this engineer moved into the village to ensure the regular servicing of the installation which was financed by the Maria Schregel charitable organization with a 6 year interest free loan.
